Penguins!! Ethan told me yesterday that his two favorite things are penguins & candy corn LOL He picked a penguin backpack for kindergarten, and is dying for a penguin pillow pet for Christmas. So I was thinking about penguins, and realized that I never really blogged about our trip to Florida.

SeaWorld was actually our last day of vacation. We were all tired, hot and most of the members of our party were sunburned *cough*heather*cough*scott*cough*bill* - but a penguin and puffin meet and greet was so worth it. It was a special "backstage" tour that we signed up for ahead of time. We met in the giftshop and our tour guide took us through the regular penguin exhibit where she taught us about penguins and we could ask questions. Then we went IN the exhibit - yes we are that awesome!

First we got to meet a puffin - I can't remember it's name, but we weren't allowed to touch it because it apparently projectile poops a lot. Ethan asked a LOT of questions about them - what they eat, if they were cousins with penguins, etc. It was very cute that he wanted to know about them.
After the puffin room, we went into the hall, and Ludwig the penguin came waddling out. He is adorable, isn't he?! Ethan wasn't scared at all - I was afraid he would be and not want to touch him, but he was all about petting him. In case you ever wondered, penguins feel like a wet short haired dog. He didn't feel like he was covered in feathers really, and his wings are heavy and thick like boomarangs.
We got to walk into the actual exhibit for a bit and look around - it's freezing in there! I think it's really neat that it actually snows in there too :) We met another friend, Kobe and then the two penguins started getting loud. They make his very loud trumpeting noise and raise their necks up high (so they were taller than Ethan). E didn't like the noise much! We learned that they make the noise to try to compete for attention, just like little kids lol.

Ethan liked penguins before we met them, but he never really showed a preference or a "favorite" animal until after this. I think it helps that Scott loves penguins too, and according to Ethan "Scott is awesome" ;) As I write this, E is in the bath playing with a swimming penguin toy he just got. I wonder if we met an elephant he would change his mind....?
